Rep. Wheeler statement on House passage of energy bill

Assistant Minority Leader Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-Oswego) issued the following statement after the Illinois House of Representatives voted Thursday to approve energy legislation, Senate Bill 2408:

“The focus of Illinois’ energy approach has to be based on nuclear. Tonight’s vote was critical to keep our nuclear fleet intact.  We will have to amend other aspects of this bill which could have a negative impact on Illinois’ energy stability and supply.  I pledge to work with my colleagues to adjust the closure deadlines that are far into the future, but we have to preserve our nuclear fleet above all else.  Our energy future along with the jobs and communities that the nuclear plants support depended on passing this bill tonight. I would like to thank the hundreds of local residents who work in our nuclear industry that reached out to me in recent days and weeks. Their feedback reinforced my belief that right now, here in this pivotal moment, we must ensure Illinois’ future as an energy-producing state by first and foremost standing up for workers in our nuclear industry and their families.”

Representative Wheeler serves the 50th District which includes portions of Kane and Kendall Counties.
