GENEVA – Fox Valley residents are invited to attend an identity theft prevention seminar sponsored by State Rep. Keith Wheeler (R-Oswego) and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office at 10:00am on Monday, September 28 at GreenFields of Geneva, located at 0N801 Friendship Way.
There are approximately 10 million identity theft victims every year in the United States. A majority of victims are senior citizens. Professionals from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office will show attendees how to safeguard their credit card, Social Security and other personal and financial information to prevent it from falling into the hands of criminals.
“Identity theft is a serious concern for people of all ages, particularly our seniors,” Rep. Wheeler said. “Our workshop will help local families learn how to take simple, effective steps to help safeguard their personal information. Being smart and proactive can keep us from becoming victims and protect our parents and grandparents from falling prey.”
“Identity theft is the most prevalent financial scam affecting people today, so it’s critical to learn how you can start incorporating simple precautions into your daily routine to minimize the risk of your personal information being compromised,” Attorney General Madigan said.
The event is free and open to residents of Illinois’ 50th District, which includes portions of Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, Campton Hills, Elburn, Montgomery, Oswego, Plano, St. Charles, Sugar Grove and Yorkville. Handouts and light refreshments will be provided.
